University Children's Center

Grand Forks, ND

Teacher Education

A major function of the Center is to train teachers of young children. Student teachers at UCC are from UND's Early Childhood Program and may also double major in Elementary or Special Education. Students are assigned to teach with an experienced teach for 16 weeks. During this period, the experienced teacher works with UND students to help them develop teaching competence. Student teachers plan, implement and evaluate individual and small group activities with the help of the experienced teacher. The training also provides for innovative and enriched programming for the children enrolled.

Over 600 UND students were served at UCC last year. This included 467 from the seven courses affiliated with the Teaching and Learning Department.
